Select a registered nurse to interview. You may select a nurse with whom you work, a fellow student, or a family member that is a nurse.  Examples may include: your nurse manager, nurse educator, or nurse case manager. Develop 5-7 questions related to how the person you interview uses professional communication in their practice. In a professional manner, conduct an oral interview of your selected nurse and record his or her responses in writing.  Perform the oral interview in a way that works best for you and the interviewee such as in-person, Zoom, phone, etc. During the interview, be mindful of how you may need to adapt or change your questioning to obtain the best information from the interviewee.  Reflect on the following components of the interview.

• How did you feel about the interview?
• Identify and explain the communication skills/techniques employed during the interview including verbal and nonverbal communication.
• Discuss two ways in which the person interviewed uses professional communication in their practice.
• Maintain professional communication tone, organization, and clarity in the writing.

Construct a 1- to 2-page paper detailing the importance of professional communication and emotional intelligence in nursing. Your paper should connect to the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses and your interview with your selected nurse. Your paper should address how effective communication and emotional intelligence impacts communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Parts 1 and 2 should be included in one document, and it should be submitted in APA format, including both citations and reference page. Please utilize the College of Nursing Writing Template.
