A situation I would choose qualitative data instead of quantitative data would be if I was collecting data from say patrons at a newly opened restaurant.  I would like to know things such as their input on how the food tasted, there thoughts on the variety of items on the menu.  I would like to ask would they return to the facility and would they recommend the restaurant to others and if so why? I would chose qualitative data instead of quantitative data because quantitative data would not give me these answers.  Quantitative data would address things such as how large was your party that attend the opening of the restaurant? How many times have they been back to the restaurant after their initial visit? Was the prices reasonable in their opinion?
